Tupac Shakur, A.K.A 2Pac, is considered by many as one of the most significant rappers of all time.
Much of Shakur's work has been noted for addressing contemporary social issues that plagued inner cities, and he is considered a symbol of resistance and activism against inequality. Near the end of his life, he was deeply entrenched in the West Coast vs East Coast hip-hop rivalry, and was eventually shot to death on September 13, 1996.

Hip-Hop has long been a controversial part of the South-Asian diaspora's story. Many South-Asian people dress, act, and speak as you see in hip-hop or black culture, and yet when it comes to supporting black people in our personal lives, our culture can be lacking. We see this more often then we'd like here in Toronto, Canada, especially given that we are supposed to be the most multicultural city in the world. It is important that we self-reflect on how we treat black people versus how we perpetuate and use their culture.
